  • Doesn't every body? Is this the final season? That's great if it is.

A good show knows when to stop dragging it out and just end.
  • I'm all over it

It's the final season, yes. But there splitting it into half seasons (8 this year and 8 next). That was the compromise the creator made with the studio because they wanted more seasons and he didn't want to milk it.
  • Can't. Fucking. Wait. If you're going to spill some beans please use the spoiler icon. Some of us get it a day later via torrent.
  • what time is it on?
  • so pumped
  • Fuckin...Amazing

For anyone who hasn't seen the show and is interested, Netflix just added the first 4 seasons of it (more so, the 4th season, as the first 3 have been there for awhile). If you watch them all, you will be completely caught up with the final season that just started airing tonight.

DO IT. The show will end up being one of the greatest things you ever watched.

  • Haven't watched the latest episode, still have to catch up on the end of season 4. Apparently it was amazing though :P
  • Spoiler:
walt has become so egotistical its great I can't wait to see what his darker attitude gets him into
  • Spoiler:
it was weird seeing walt physically intimidate saul..... and that wont end well. saul is weasly, sure, but hes always had all the info, and all the power.

that being said, this is the 'final season' thread, so if you come in here, expect us to be discussing whats the lastest developments in the final season. spoiler tags or no. the thread title already lets you know we're discussing it so don't be surprised. :P

  • Edited title so ya'll should be able to post what you like without tags.

Also, added warning to first post.

And with that... I'm out of here, not to return until the series is done... or half done I suppose.

  • Breaking Bad is the only show in the history of television that I have trouble waiting that extra day for. I have almost added AMC to my cable plan like twenty times.
  • I suggest someone start a general breaking bad thread :P
  • Hehe, I'm not adverse to spoilers. They don't have any effect on my ability to enjoy something.

    I just saw it so...

  • Wait, were allowed to talk about the episodes? Hot shit...alright, so this has seriously got to be the greatest fuckin thing on television right now (and in recent memory, last show that reached this caliber of amazing was Battlestar Galactica).

What is everyone's guess to how this show is going to end? My theory is simple...Walt will succeed. Aaron Paul's character will die (only after fully converting over to the hero of the story as its set up) and Walt's Step Brother (D.E.A Agent) will die. We can already tell that this season is about Walt being on top and his egotistical alter ego, Heisenberg, has fully manifested itself and is now in control. Walt's obsession with being in control will be the perfect back drop to the series stunning conclusion...Walt's death. Only after he has fully seen this transformation through, and conquered his never ending thirst, will the cancer finally take him.

It will be poetic...the one thing he can't possibly control, will be his undoing.

    So...what's your guys guesses?
  • yeah the site is for talking after all. ;)

personally im conflicted with this episode. it was good and with walt's overall arc its interesting. Mike doesn't seem to have any arc at all. don't know that i like that.

I think what bugged me is when he physically intimidated saul. He's been intimidating before. Hes been assertive before. He's played 'the boss' before. but not like this. and not with saul so much. Saul before was always quick to point out that Walt needs him. Walt is really dependant on saul. saul knows everything, not just about walt, but all the people to contact, how things work etc. he's effectively walt's guide. i have a feeling walt will act hasty and kill saul. then walt will be lost.

i'm really interested in what his wife does, and how her arc plays out.

sorry for sloppy typing. im tired.

  • Hmm. Okay, I'll try. In the opening scene he's clearly on the run from someone. Based on the fact that he's buying guns, I'm going to guess it's not from the DEA. Walt may be losing control but he's always able to justify his actions to himself, and even the thought of a shootout with the DEA is too out of character. The cartel would have more issue with Gus than with Walt and to be honest they've got more things to worry about than revenge. So I think that leaves one last falling out between Jesse and Walt, which is perfectly understandable if Jesse finds out what Walt did last season. So in terms of how things draw to that conclusion in eight episodes I'm going to assume Saul tells Jesse at some point as a result of Walter putting too much pressure on him. Also, the fact that he needs a fake ID makes me guess that Mike is alive at that point and is the one doing that actual hunting.

If your referring to the end of last season, yes. He is the one who came up with the poisoning of the kid in order to trick Jesse into helping him. Keeping in mind, it was only Jesse that stood between Gus and Walt.
  • Tonight's episode was pretty awesome. I love that we got some more background on Frank's character and having them finally establish the new cooking team can only mean good times are ahead.
  • I finished season 4 and im ready to start season 5 today. Damn this show is just getting better. I'm actually really curious who Gus was before he was Gus and in chile

I meant does anybody except walt know what he really did?

  • Yeah, Saul does. Walt needed his help to get the ricin from Jesse's cigarette so he had Huell pat him down and swap the pack when Jesse went over to Saul's office last season. That wasn't confirmed but then in episode 1 he slides the cigarette to Walt over the table and reminds him how much he's risked.

    Ah...then ya, what taprtwice said.
  • I'm starting to think the opening sequence in Live Free or Die won't be realized until next year. Episode four is titled fifty-one, which I'm going to assume is a reference to Walter's 51st birthday, putting episode 4 exactly one year behind those events. I don't know how they'd be able to jump forward a year in four episodes. I think I'm going to be dying of anticipation for episode 9 by the time it comes around. =(

My guess is they will end the first set of 8 episodes leading up to (or at least explaining enough so we know what happens) that moment. Then it will not only be the opening to the season, it will be the mid season cliffhanger.

  • Yeah, fitting that it would take almost a year for us to see what's going to happen a year later in the show. That wait definitely won't be easy.
  • Oh man...were to start with tonight's episode. First off, I love the new cover...bug exterminators is fuckin brilliant and I can only imagine the shit their going to get into with it (house owners and stuff). Secondly, the way Walt used his Wife as an escape goat, making her out as the bad guy (although what he said wasn't entirely false, it was just un-related) along with her break down at the car wash...there is going to be a huge blow up. He has fully crossed over and the very last thing he said to Jessie before the credits rolled is the spark for what will surely be his downfall...Jessie will no doubt be keeping an eye on him from now on after that comment.

    Anyone elses thoughts?

EDIT: I wonder when Jessie will fully realize that Walt has been playing him and manipulating him all along...him breaking up with his girlfriend. Man oh man...I can't wait to see what happens next now that their cooking again.

  • loved the end, I can't wait to see what they get up to with the new operation.
  • caught up with this week's episode. the new cover is great but full of hazards too (ie nanycam)

its clear W has fully broken bad now. his wife is terrified of him and she no longer seems to need him for anything. i she going to cut and run or break bad herself?

i love how jesse is STILL evolving as a character too. what was with that ending though? walt is becoming irrational and dangerous even to himself

are we going to back to the show's roots? .... chemical supply issues?

why didnt mike explain to walt how the ongoing expenses were to keep guys quiet and keep the new operation safe? maybe walt would have just said to off them. i dont know. he may still.

  • Skyler is going to die. After watching this new episode, its almost certain. Either she will off herself, or Walt will do it. Either way, I can't see her being in the show much longer.

Also, this upcoming episode (number 5) is said to be the biggest Breaking Bad episode to date, according to the creator Vince Gilligan. Not sure what he means by biggest, but if he says it, I can only assume it will be amazing.

  • I don't know. maybe walt turning a gun on her will be what snaps him out of it. he's had such a clear personality disconnect this season after the shit that went down last season. He still feels like he needs his family though.

Walter is so irrational and impulsive now though. Such a jump from the calculating walter we've seen in the past. He isn't merely free of inhibitions now .. he's free of forethought and planning. He's taking risks he'd have never taken before. Jesse is actually becoming the voice of reason and family man now.

...its also still possible that skyler break bad too. That started to happen last season a little, though now she's a bit too emo. Maybe she just needs a catalyst.
  • Nah, Skyler threatened him. Although his love for her is still there, you can easily tell the kids mean most to him. As soon as she said she is waiting for the cancer to kill him, I knew she was going to die. I could even see how she might start to affect his work life and home life...they made sure to have him mention specifically in the episode that he has finally separated the two lives (being the reason he believes they no longer need to worry). Its totally foreshadowing...hes going to snap on her. He might even get someone else to get rid of her.
  • he is going to snap on her, sure. but will she die, and will walt be the one that does it. Perhaps since he's impulsive and emotional these days. everything he does seems to be on a whim.

perhaps she'll try fleeing again, with the kids. walt will have to send someone after her to silence her?

skyler admitted she doesnt have a plan and isnt as calculated as walt .... but these days neither is walt. he's not as thoughtful as he used to be either. he's slipping up.

The way walt is going, maybe he's finally going to have it out with jessee (and mike) ... the group is at the top of the food chain (as far as they know) right now.... soon walt will more actively question why the top predator needs to share food at all.

I think the character arc I hate the most is the DEA. maybe they'll get more interesting soon.
  • The more I think about it (and you mentioning it) the more I believe the opening to the series (the one that takes place one year from this episode, hes 52nd birthday) is Walt trying to get his kids back from her. At that point, maybe she finally sees no way out besides confessing? Maybe the DEA are trying to protect the kids and her until Walt is dealt with.

I could totally see him snapping in a huge way.

EDIT: Or maybe Skyler will turn everyone on Walt...oh God, I honestly don't know...that's what I love about this show. No matter how much you guess or think you know what's going to happen, you don't know shit.

  • I ought to re-watch that scene....

It seems like he's already snapped. Its like a switch has gone off. It was gradual at first but now, with this season, he's made a big jump. its just a matter of time before there is an incident to make everyone take notice.

HE HAS A FUCKING MACHINE GUN IN HIS CAR! SAY HELLO TO MY BIG FRIEND!

  • hmmm wonder why i cant embed that image....
  • Also, the name of this past episode was "Fifty One" obviously to showcase the current time frame in comparison to the season opener (and his birthday). It was on his birthday (this episode) that Skyler finally tells Walt how shes feeling and that she will do anything within her power to keep the kids safe from him until the cancer returns and kills him.

That line she said about waiting for the cancer to return is obviously foreshadowing. My guess has always been that Walt will succeed in the end, everyone will either be dead or not know of his secrets...and once he has all the control in the world, the one thing he can't control will kill him in the end.
  • Look at all that ammo...something big is definitely going down.
  • yeah thats what got me too. Walt has always been a 'one shot' sort of man.
  • I'm liking the idea of Skyler turning everyone against Walt. I still find it hard to believe that he would engage in a shootout with the DEA but it would definitely take a lot of ammunition if something like that were to happen. You're definitely right about the cancer but we already knew it was on its way back because he's taking pills in the opening to Live Free or Die. I can't wait to see what Walter is planning with Lydia. That will give us an idea of where his mind is after all the shit with Gus. We don't really know what he's capable of anymore. The episode title Dead Freight has really got me interested in what's going to happen. I know it's literally in reference to issues with supply but I can't help but think that there's something more sinister behind it.

  • Alright, tonight's episode was just...fucking amazing. A mother fuckin train heist...and that ending, holy shit. When the kid pulled up I literally couldn't breathe. I was just as shocked as those three probably were, I couldn't swallow for a few seconds. The name of the episode makes sense now. Just...Jesus.

This will most definitely be the point were Jessie starts breaking away from them, considering everything he has been through involving children.

Seriously...my God...Ive never been left breathless like that EVER watching a show...my mind, it hurts.

  • Dammit i really need to catch up!
  • ending caught me off guard thats for sure
  • Vince Gilligan never ceases to amaze me. I just found out that the watch Jesse gave Walt on his birthday is a TAG Heuer Monaco. A watch made famous by Steve McQueen, who just so happened to die of widespread cancer.
Post edited by taprtwice at 2012-08-14 18:27:49
  • yeah if anything will push jessee away it will be what just happened. who knows though, maybe jessee bugged the watch he gave walt even.

notice the reference to heat? just like walt watching scarface, it seems like a warning of whats to come and how the characters think of themselves.

it really seems now like walt has no allies, just hostages.
  • I need to catch up too...
