Evil Is Back
  • Say goodbye to your social life...

I now declare this the official Diablo 3 thread...as the other was just for the beta. Also, the thread title suites it well.

  • Tht is a sweet ad...can't wait to play.
  • I don't like Diablo at all and could never really get into it no matter how much I tried. Never quite saw all the fuss over it. However, to those who do - ENJOY!
  • Aww!! I thought you were talking about me. I AM DECIEVED!!! But i like the Diablo trailer although i may not pick up the game due to a large backlog of games still untouched on my shelf lol.
  • I was loving all the news coming out for Diablo up until I read into the online store. The very concept of which is a monumental turnoff for me, so much so that I will be actively avoiding any playing of this game. Sorry Blizz, you went too far with monetizing the game for me.
  • Still got to pre-order my copy, hoping to get it digital, but if I cant, I will give my money to evil EB

The online store will actually help fight farmers and their sites.
  • yeah at least when it exists in an official capacity it can be controlled and managed.
  • The online store concept doesn't bother me for the reasons @LegendofMyth and @Rajio mention. Back in the Diablo II days online farming was out of control, so putting control in the developers hands makes sense.

For the game itself, I'll be passing for now.
  • It will happen whether there is an official store or not. The only difference is this way it is permitted.

The content on the store is ONLY submitted by players themselves. Its a player store on a Blizzard platform.
    Not a Blizzard store

^ it already was in that land via a black market. It's just smarter now. It's still a game but it's controlling the pirating industry. Not too sure what's wrong about that. You don't have to use it. No one is making you. Also there is in game currency Auction house too.

I think you quoted the wrong person, unless you were aggressively agreeing with me...lol.
  • it didn't double quote loool

I VERY AGGRESSIVELY AGREE WITH YOU!
  • I wish I was as excited as you folks.
  • Oh the anti-farming aspect of it is nice and all, but I don't like where it is going. Unless items can be bought with either in game currency or rl money.
  • ^pretty sure it can

    They can.
  • I'm wondering if I should get this or not. For the little bit of time I played Diablo 2, I had fun. I don't know if I like the real money auction house idea though.
  • You dont have to use the auction house. I wouldnt. Though im still debating cancelling my preorder because of the constant internet connection required.
  • I forgot about the constant internet connection deal as well. Not that I really have to worry about that, but still shit happens, and I'm sometimes left without internet for whatever amount of time.

Gaussian...you can spend in-game gold in the AH as well, the game isn't forcing you to use REAL money...
  • Fuck it, I'm pumped! Two of my sisters are going to pick it up on launch and we are gonna murder shit like it's crazy fun!
  • Can we talk about how great it is that this game is not coming out "Holiday 2012" and is even coming out PRE E3! facts I appreciate so much.

  • Blizzard knows how much money they will make with this, doubt they would want to lose any goodwill by releasing on the holiday.

Actually come to think of it, can people cite Blizzard ever saving things for the Holiday? SC 2 released in mid summer...
  • They have no competition at all. It's amazing what games can sell in a boring period opposed to fall....unless you're CoD
  • yeah youd think this would be the time of year when we'd see all the more unique 'risky' titles pushed and the holidays left for the 'tried and true' (rinse and repeat) games like CoD.

  • Instead.... a new Free to Play diablo-style game is due to release soon-ish ...
    Terrible timing.

It does look cool though and has a public test weekend this weekend: http://www.pathofexile.com/

I wouldn't say NO competition...it launches day one with Max Payne 3. I'm hosting a midnight launch here in Edmonton at the Southgate mall for both games...going to be interesting to see who picks up which title.
  • I might be getting a PC from a friend just to play this game. He keeps joking around that he is going to quit his job and earn all his money through the auction house, I don't even know if that is possible.

@LegendofMyth Not related to D3 but: I don't know why but every time I buy a handheld gaming device it always seems to be from Southgate. Even when I moved to BC, I would just happen to have the money for the DS Lite and 3DS on times I visit Edmonton and go to Southgate. I got every handheld I ever owned there.

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans was released in November. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness was released in December. Diablo was released at end of December. Starcraft: Brood War was released in December.

It was after this with Diablo II that Blizzard began releasing things in late Spring and early Summer, as I recall. Not sure about World of Warcraft and it's expansions though, as I don't play those.

  • Most WoW Expansions have come out in the fallish area.
  • Most WoW Expansions have come out in the fallish area.

Was the core game also a Fall launch?
  • World of Warcraft = November 22nd, 2004
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade = January 16th, 2007
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King = November 13th, 2008
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm = December 7th, 2010
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandoria = Most likely Fall 2012
  • A guy I went to high school with is one of Future Shop's entertainment managers, so he's been posting on Facebook with regards to his store's Diablo III midnight launch. Apparently Max Payne 3 and Game of Thrones will be available for trade or purchase, along with movies, so I might head up there that night.

Truth be told, I'm more excited about the other two games, but that's not a comment on Diablo III's quality (based on beta.)

Need to sidetrack this thread real quick (its cool, my thread) and ask Wick...is Game of Thrones any good? I might pick it up with my Diablo 3 and Max Payne.
  • @LegendofMyth

I was impressed with it. At Monday's event, that was the game I spent the most time watching, but I also went hands on with it for about eight minutes. Others had taken longer, which caused me to have to wait quite a while (hence a lot of the watching, which also occurred while I waited to talk to the Atlus rep.) I decided not to play too long because a couple others were watching, but I enjoyed what I played.

It has a turn-based combat system, but not in the RPG way. You can queue up three abilities or press the default attack button. One character had a dog which seemed to be user-controlled (and its abilities could be selected for battle,) but I did not use him.

The game switches between characters at the beginning of each chapter.

30-40 hours, apparently. The PS rep told me that, but I heard the Atlus rep say 30. Apparently 20 if you rush.

Felt very authentic. Had well-written dialogue. Lots of choices ala Mass Effect, with consequences.

Looked quite a bit better in action than in screenshots/trailers (WAY too dark.)

It's something I look forward to playing.
  • @LegendofMyth

This game was developed by a different team than Game of Thrones: Genesis, and was originally pitched seven years ago. George R. R. Martin was a development aid, and someone said they heard he's happy with it.

They had an original idea of what the throne would look like, but changed it once HBO created theirs.

New story, but it has familiar characters, and introduces one from book 2, despite taking place during the latter half of the first book if I'm remembering properly.

I wrote a hands on preview, which is up on WGTC.

I could have sworn Blizzard made it available for all B.Net users to download now...but you obviously can't install it without a CD key, and you definitely can't connect to Battle.net without a CD key.

Go to Battle.net and check your profile to see if you can download the files...if not, just get them off a torrent site. Its not pirating really, since you will still use your retail key come release to play it.

  • nope not in my bliz profile. just a link to preorder.

just share the exe with me. its prob just like a meg right? XD
  • Whats your email Raj
  • raj@ohmpage.ca

  • @EyeOfTheHawks Upload to Mediafire, share link.
  • In that case, he can just find it himself, im not doing that.

Somebody else will have done it, and I have a feeling that may (or may not) be violating something in the TOS
