Because I'm New
  • I have a few questions. Maps or Map Packs, is there ways to share them? Back in my PC days we only needed to connect to a server to download any maps that we needed in order to play online. I find it a little anal you have to pay for them.

What about games themselves? I have a friend that has a few games and offered to lend me them. I know how M$ (and others) is with regards to licences and copy rights. I dont want to screw him up if I'm playing one of his games.

And what about adding friends? What is the etiquette? Is there a formal way of doing this? You know, if someone has their profile hidden. I take that as someone not wanting to be disturbed or if they inquire about adding me, I'd much prefer I had chance to see what they play. Not sure if I'm sounding weird, if so sorry. If your new you dont want to step on toes, or atleast for myself I dont.

If theres anything else I should be aware of plz let me know.
  • Nothing is easier to share than a hard copy.

For Map Packs on Xbox, as with all digital content, is tied to the Xbox in which it was originally downloaded to and the Gamertag that made the purchase.

As for sending friend requests... I actually don't. It's not because I think I'm hot shit and should never send them out but because I feel like I'm bothering someone if I send it out of the blue.

Thats kinda more like what I meant. I know what ya mean.
I was hoping that would be the answer for hard copies. Thx

So bloody typical of M$. But it's understandable, were all here on earth to make someone richer. But I did just read a cryptic post on Live about DLC sharing. ??

    Thx @Smoreninja

  • There are things called a "License Transfer", you can find the info on it on Xbox.com
If nothing's changed since I used to be a Xbox person.

If people dont want to be your friend on XBL, they'll just reject your request, and thats that.
Nothing stopping you from re-adding at a later date if you still play/talk with them, then eventually you'll get a new friend.

edit* Oh, i see youve read about DLC sharing :p
  • Just to further answer some of your questions:

    Sending friend requests:

If I get a request from someone I don't recognize, I usually ignore it. A message goes a long way.

Usually the best people to add are people you've spoken with in some way and sending them a message along with the friend request will help you a lot.

    Map Packs and so on:

The only way to share these is if someone else in your house hold is going to be playing them. You buy them on your console, anyone else playing on your console can use them.

    That's pretty much it.

    Hard copies:

Yes, you can still lone out your bought and paid for retail games BUT a lot of games these days come with what is called an 'Online Pass'.

You buy the game new, it comes with a code that you enter upon first playing the game and this unlocks the rest of the game. This is usually reserved for the multiplayer section, but recently (see: Kingdoms of Amalur) they've also been included in single player games.

This is done by the publisher to gain profit from used sales. You buy the game used, you've saved some money, then if you want the full experience you have to pay money to unlock... whatever they've locked away.

Some other things you may like to know:

Recently in Xbox news, there have been some reports of 'hacking' Xbox Live accounts.

The way this happens is a person will pick you out, find your e-mail address and then brute force hack their way through your e-mail password to access any and all accounts attached to it.

A good way to avoid this is to have a very good and very strong e-mail password that you never tell anyone ever. Ever.

Check your password strength here for the e-mail address associated with your Xbox Live account: http://howsecureismypassword.net/

Just hammer it on in there and it'll gauge the strength of it.

    Change your password if applicable.

Another thing to note, and something for your kids as well, is to throw a password on your actual Xbox Profile. So even if by some small chance someone does gain access to your e-mail account they still won't be able to access your profile.

See here for how to do that: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/billing-and-subscriptions/account-management/xbox-live-pass-codes.

What games do you currently own and play?
  • Thats how business is. Companies have to constantly find new ways to make more money than the year before. That leads to cutting content to release later as DLC. Then next year they need to make more money yet again so they cut corners and the next games quality isnt up to par with the previous one, but even more DLC is released than last time.

Now how to make more money? claim used games sales are making your children starve , so now kill off used game sales by implementing online passes.

  • This is not the place for this conversation, dudes.
  • hmmm...it posted that one twice?
  • We have a glitch on the site that we call the 'ghost post'. It shows you having posted twice when it's only actually posting once.

refreshing the page usually clears it up.

If you delete the ghost, it deletes your original post.

Doos is right, so all I'm going to say is I agree with Law's comments above.

Now, how about that local sports team?
  • Sorry I jumped into this thread late and thought it was about DLC and game comapnies .....didnt mean to hijack.
  • Ya Jux and Law....next time you utter your dumb ass communist opinions....start with saying hello to the thread originator....and end with some lame assed question about what games he owns.....it works for Doos and I!!
  • Nerd rage alert.
