Headset guru needed
  • I bought a Turtle Beach XL1 headset. But because I'm using an HDMI cable for sound and video it said I had two choices for hook-up. Plug it into the TV sound out-put or to use a dongle (that I dont have) that would plug into the back of the xbox and I would plug the headset into that. What I was wondering, could I use the xbox supplied audio/video cable and just use the sound from it, instead of buying this other dongle??
    ATM I'm using the TV sound, but dont like the idea of the sound always coming out of the headset.

    id imagine that would work, i say give it a shot if you have it handy and find out for yourself, you dont really have anything to lose in trying it out apart from a few minutes of time.
  • Component or composite?
  • So ur basically trying to split a single headphone plug into red/white audio?? Im not sure what Xbox supplied cable would do this? U can find y-splitters fairly cheap(like less than 5 bucks). Maybe try Radio Shack, Canada Computers, or even some dollar stores.

    What about ur TV, is it fairly new? If so, i would just plug it into the TV. Most TV's built in the last 5 years have good audio systems. Plus, ur headphones are amplified, and will sound just fine.

    I was kinda chicken to try it out. With all these posts about breaking machines over @live I was beginning to think the box was weak and easy to screw-up. Any way's thanks for shout back. Sintacs

    @Ninja_Starz Sorry dude something must have crossed your wires. I honestly dont know where your going with what you wrote. But thanks just the same, you took the time to write all that and it's much appreciated.

  • @Hunter
    Yup, im an idiot. I just went to turtlebeach's site. Thought ur headphones used a single standard headphone plug.
  • @Ninja
    No problem. We all read things wrong once in awhile...hmmm ok I do it more often than once in awhile :)
  • Hunter I had that exact issue when I bought my XL1's a few years back. So I switched back to the original cables. When the head set broke 6 months later I switched back.
  • I know this may sound like a drastic alternative but i would recommend you to get at least a new headset like the TurtleBeach X12 which has the dongles (white/red) attached to its wire. Plus, the X12 supports both Xbox and PC gaming which has a great stereo sound. Also, you can find this headset for less than $60 and comes often on sale at less than $40. The only real issues with the X12 are the wire itself (for those who prefer wireless) and the fact that it doesn't support PS3/Wii or other consoles (aside PC and Xbox).
  • Sorry guys I work 12 hour shifts so it doesn't leave much time to be here.

    @EchoGolfSierra
    Boy I hope I can get more than 6 months out of these. My wifes already giving me funny looks....what more money...lol

    @MSQGanner
    I really gave the X12's a good look when I was at the store (walmart). But at the time I was buying another game and a Live Points card. Money told me to take the cheaper XL1's. The guy at walmart seemed knowledgeable and he said that they connected the same way, I didnt know enough then but I'm learning ;) But did you notice or read about people with problems with the wireless ones?..umm beyond the price. Ouch!

    Anyways..thanks for the answers guys
