What Did You Accomplish In Life Today?
  • To parallel the 'Gaming' thread.. here's one that's the same but different.

You don't need to blow minds here people, just minor accomplishments will do and lacking those, a random detail.

Yesterday our bathroom fan was making some gargly noises. I removed the cover, removed the fan, cleaned it with compressed air and a bit of poking with a screwdriver, replaced it, and when used again was quiet and smooth and lovely.

I love being able to fix something, because I'm not a very 'fixy' type of guy.

Although I have fixed our Roomba (Jeeves) multiple times when he's gotten ill.

Today I've done nothing but start drinking my coffee, because I've just woken up an hour ago.
  • I wonder if this quote had anything to do with this topic

I went to sleep at 7.

    Yeah, that is my accomplishment.
  • I went in to work at 7am then has a boring late afternoon and hung out with friends, its raning here :(
  • I too went to work and got to play with trains in the pissing rain.

It was not a pleasant evening but it's all over and done with now.

I've also accumulated enough spare cash that I'm now *actively* looking for a new laptop, a new thread will start sometime tomorrow (Today) to discuss this.
  • I learned how to dig potatoes out of a garden today. That was a lot of fun and a skill I'll definitely use a lot later in life.

I also went to see KISS on Friday night in Toronto. It was a great show. I'd seen them a couple of times last year, so I was hoping that the show would be a bit different. Some of the songs were different, which was nice, and some of the crowd interaction/performances were as well.
  • Today, my breakfast consisted of a medium peperoni from Domino's and a beer.

I actually did eat around noon :p.
  • I got all the tools I need except one whoo me!
It's not like that one tool I need is going to prevent me from burning myself or make working easier... Oh wait.
  • Did homework and played video games, fun stuff
  • Today I binge-gamed in Fallout 3, the first binge-gaming session I've had in months!

    I also washed my car.
  • Anyone else feel like this place is more of a daily blog in which it is updated by several people?
  • Absolutely nothing, other than what I accomplished playing Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

I must apply to a ton of job listings this week.
  • Anyone else feel like this place is more of a daily blog in which it is updated by several people?

    Yes. Which is lovely.

Today in life I got to drive a train... that's not normally what I do, I tell the guy who drives 'em where to go... sort of. It's complicated, but today I drove one. It was fun and exciting.

I also almost, ALMOST... like, so close! changed the subject title of Xbox.ca's 'What did you accomplish..' thread from 'Gaming' to 'Gaymen'.

I decided at the last minute that it was in bad form.

Not because of the possible 'gay bashing' rhetoric... I don't believe saying 'gay' is the equivalent of hate speech or disrespect... but because it's the only thread on there that has pretty much never had an argument etc.

It's almost sacred, and I'd like to maintain that.

Seems a bit silly to think so much about it... but that's the way it went in my head.
  • Woke up at 11am... far too early for going to bed at 7... Need a nap... then start work at 7pm.. Hopefully not a lot of sadness will ensue.

    It's the wife's B-Day today! Happy B-day to her!
  • I beat Halo Reach last night and I re-arranged my bedroom today and worked on my Reach review.
  • My entire class had a research assignment given to us due in 40 mins and we failed.
  • beat halo reach solo on legendary (did not get the achievement)
  • @Doos Happy B-Day to your lady!

@Rajio Dude, that would piss me off. Does it show all levels completed on Legendary Solo when you go to the level selection menu (assuming it still does this like previous games)?

    Don't be sabotaging my thread!

Today, I didn't do very much, but I had some resumes printed off and plan to apply to a ton of jobs this week.

Other than that, I beat a few missions in Spider-Man.

it shows all levels completes on solo as legendary except for one of them which is shows as never completed on solo OR co-op. which is crazy since it advanced me to the subsequent mission. it's clearly a bug.

I'm told I should go finish that level again (from the beginning) on legendary, but that prospect is a little stressful. i will eventually but right now im all halo'ed out lol. finishing that level on legendary all alone was fucking tough. theres a point where you have no more weapons, just a pistol. and a few large, heavily armed enemies to contend with. you can't afford to miss a single shot or delay at ALL between firing shots. I remember doing that part SO many times. 100% efficiency or death.

i've played all halo games on solo legendary (except halo wars which i did only multiplayer for) and while it was hard it always felt possible. the difficulty made it good - i like being uncertain of survival. this time it was a LOT more difficult and a lot quicker. Right off the bat it's VERY tough on solo legendary. more so than ODST even.

  • Railroads are usually hiring.

All you need is your highschool...

www.cn.ca/careers if anyone is interested. Or try CP, I don't know what their address is, but I'm sure it's something similar.

Today in life I did something I normally don't do... I got a hankering for fast food at 3am and decided to drive all over London to find a 24hr Burger King. I wanted the Stacker...

No such luck, instead I got a Big Mac and a Jr. Chicken.. aww yeah. Foods.

I was unable to do any of the Halo trilogy on solo Legendary, so if what you say is true, then there goes my shot at "Monument to All Your Sins."
  • you could hire me to beat it for you. i need work anyhow ;)
  • Silly Switch; your new job is to host gamer nights on a daily basis. ;)
Speakin' of stuff Switch would do
I'm thinking about tossing out my eb pre-order item as a contest so watch out for that.

But then it's not my Achievement, and I like to earn my own stuff ;). I'll definitely be able to get "Gods Must Be Strong" with Co-Op, but I'll still attempt "Monument to All Your Sins."

Good bumping into you oh so briefly today. I'll be picking up my Limited Edition after work tonight, and I'll be playing the Campaign. So heads up everyone, as I'm going through the Campaign the first time I will be ignoring any and all messages sent my way!

I also hadn't realized that you needed work. As you know I'm not overly keen about my company right now, however if you really do need work, I might be able to hook you up with something.

PM me if you want to chat about that.

good bumping in to you too. i was on a lunch date and running late so couldnt chat. ;) sorry. i just got monument to all my sins too. finally. had to run through the 'last' level again from the beginning without break just to make sure it registered as complete this time.

i am not working and looking at my options. if you have options lets discuss.
  • I slept way too late today. Legend and Kayareswon kept me up all night doing a Reach marathon, so I blame them. Just kidding. It was voluntary (although I originally wasn't expecting that they'd want to play through the entire thing in one night. I haven't really done that much before.)

Pretty much the only thing I did worth mentioning today was that - beat Halo Reach with three other players on Legendary. It was fun. I'd never played a Halo game on Legendary before.

    @Doos:

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look at it. Right now, I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life. Back to school? The trades? I can't decide, although I doubt the trades will be for me - it's just an option worth looking into. Seemingly, my college diploma for advertising (sales is what I was best at,) is useless. I can't find anything.
  • Well, I'll tell ya, if they're hiring in your area, and you can afford to go without a paycheck for a month, just the training alone is lucrative.

    Here's how it works:

You apply as a Conductor, wherever you are, major city etc. The online application takes about 45 mins. Or more.. depending.. just tell 'em what they want to hear. You'll know what I mean.

They'll go through 'em and if they are hiring in the area (Which they usually are.. 10000 new hires over the next 10 years) you'll get a call saying 'Come here for this test and interview.'

Tell 'em what they want to hear, you'll work weekends, nights, whatever, on call etc.

If you make it through, you'll be put up in whatever city they're doing the training in. Thrown in a hotel for 6 weeks, all paid for.

5 years ago it paid $800 a week. Plus $30/day for food. So just your food allowance alone would net you $1260, plus the $4800 for training.

So, if you've got nothing better to do, go to the training, pass or fail you get the cash..

If you've got the means to hold out for the training period without getting paid (It's a two-week in lieu system, meaning you work 2 weeks, then another 2 weeks, then get paid the first 2, then 2 weeks later the next...) it can be lucrative.

Like I said, that was 5 years ago, training rates have probably gone up.

It's an option if you've got nothing else going on...

Base pay for a qualified conductor, worst case scenario, 60k/year.

No worries dude, I actually suspect you were occupied at the time ;). Congrats on Monument. I've only been able to put about 2.5 hours into the game so far, but hope the get more. So far, I'm super impressed with the detail of the Limited Edition, and the Campaign's gameplay is fun (they seem to have lessened auto-aiming), but I'm rather disappointed in the story so far. I'm only starting Chapter 4 (_NO_ SPOILERS anyone, please!), but it seems they've completely retconed the entire last several Chapters of Halo: Fall of Reach. I'll wait 'till I complete the Campaign to pass final judgement though.

There are options at my company, and it'd depend on what you're looking for, as I don't believe they're in your native field. I hear rumour we _may_ have an IT position available soon, but it's not official yet.

Again, send me a PM if you'd like, and I can send you some detailed info, contacts, and links about what I do know.

hm sounds neat although due to be doing another year in highschool
I would need a part time job and after school is summer then college so there really is no time for me to work there although I will definitely keep cn on my radar in the future
  • It's a fun job... as long as you like being outside.

  • Im bored as shit, its ridiculous.

I have a craving for a Call of Duty type game (Military FPS), and i dont have any :(
And i wont have one till November...

Tuesday couldnt come any quicker, as well as saturday
  • Picked up Halo: Reach for $50. Got near the end of my shift, decided I didn't want to try another Halo game and sold it to a co-worker for $40 + MW2(which I sold about 6 months ago).
Played it and did quite well actually. So much easier than BC2.

That sounds like something worth looking into for sure. I need to find something to do. I've been unemployed for a while. I went to college for three years (Advertising,) and graduated a year ago June. I haven't been able to find anything in that field since then and haven't really had much luck with part-time or minimum wage stuff either.

I've had a couple phenomenal job interviews at Future Shop and Home Depot, where the interviewer seemed legitimately blown away by my resume and/or my knowledge (the fact that I was able to tell the people at Future Shop Fallout NV's release date and all about it, as well as other things about gaming.) Yet, I never heard back. It's weird.

    On-topic:

Today, I'm going to finally get off my ass and put out some more resumes. I need to go to Blockbuster to return Reach (it bores me,) so I'll put one in there. Planning to rent the new Batman game for the Wii, to play at my friend's house when I go there this afternoon.

Gotta' pick up case of beer, too. I don't think my 4 Stellas will cut it. Granted, I rarely drink, but I feel like relaxing and having some tonight.

Ohh! Ohh! I wanna be a test rat!
  • ahahah. Steam pranks are fun :)

IF you add a non-steam game to your steam games library, you can edit the title.

Right now according to steam and my friends list, i am playing Team Fortress 3 - Limited BETA.

So far SpectralMeat has fallen for it :)
  • After posting yesterday, I received a call from GM, asking me to come for part one of a four step testing process, next Thursday. My Dad works there and found out about a supplemental hiring process they're undertaking, so he put my name in. I worked there before, for a year (two nights a week/midnights,) during college. I was laid off afterwards.

Other than that, I haven't done too much over the last day or so. Just played some video games with friends, did some driving to practice for my G test, and watched MacGruber (not my choice, but it wasn't as awful as I expected.)
  • I've accomplished sweet fuck all in life and in gaming as of late...

The late work nights have been leaving me worn out and tired.. Seems the only time I have any sort of energy at all is when I'm at work... and something just seems fucked up about that.
  • Worked at 5AM today urrgh only until 11:30, no break though it sucked
now I'm at home finishing my narrative waiting til eight so a friend and I can hang out and smoke some pot...should be a fun night better than the boring morning/afternoon
I've had no time to play reach today :(
  • I decided to get a jump start on my fall cleaning today, and ended up knocking every single task for my condo off the list.

Took most of the day, and now I'm tired and have a headache, but at least it's done.

Only things left are to work on the car, and I have a fake wicker chair I need to fix.
